Creative Drama in Corporate Training: A Tool for Transformation and Sustainable Learning

Updated: Oct 7

Recently, we provided consultancy support for the design of a workshop that aimed to experience a transformation in corporate culture through creative drama. In this process, we worked closely with in-house creative drama trainers, contributing not only to the content of the program but also to their facilitation skills.

For many years, we have used creative drama as one of the core methods in our own trainings. Observing the change it generates in participants through carefully designed drama games tailored to the needs of different groups has always been invaluable for us. This time, however, we had the opportunity to witness this change from the trainers’ perspective.

Through the content development consultancy we provided, the feedback we received from both the trainers and participants reminded us once again of the profound impact of creative drama. In short, we did not want to simply mention “creative drama” and move on.

In Brief: The Creative Drama Method

In essence, creative drama is an interactive approach that supports lasting learning by making its impact visible in the educational process. It enables individuals to think, feel, and create together within a group, drawing on their own experiences. In this process, participants become not only learners but also active subjects who shape the learning experience itself. We once again observed how this approach takes shape in the corporate world during our consultancy. With our guidance on both content and methodology, the in-house trainer delivered an impressive workshop at the end of the process.

After the training, we learned from participant feedback that concepts and knowledge that had previously seemed abstract became much more concrete through creative drama. Many also expressed that they felt better equipped to apply this knowledge in practice.

This entire process demonstrated to us, once again, that creative drama can serve as a powerful tool for transformation within the dynamics of corporate life. Put differently, when tailored to organizational needs, creative drama becomes a method that brings company values to life, strengthens team cohesion, and initiates the first steps of genuine change.

As we often emphasize, conflict resolution, negotiation, collaboration, or the internalization of organizational values cannot be achieved through mere “understanding” alone. Real transformation occurs when individuals are given the chance to experience and rehearse these ideas in a democratic setting, rooted in their own lived experiences.

And it is precisely at this point that creative drama comes into play.

This method:

  • Encourages innovative thinking,

  • Strengthens open communication and effective expression skills,

  • Builds trust and collaboration within teams,

  • Brings together diverse perspectives to foster joint problem-solving,

  • Nurtures empathy and social awareness,

  • Enhances emotional intelligence and stress management skills.

The common thread across these outcomes is clear: learning is not limited to the transfer of information. It gains meaning through experience, interaction, and the active role of the learner.

From our long-standing field experience, we can confidently say this: creative drama provides a safe space to engage with complex and challenging topics, reflect upon them, and internalize new perspectives. Moreover, it offers a rehearsal for the difficulties we encounter both in social life and in professional settings.

And we truly enjoy guiding this process every step of the way!
